👨‍👩‍👧 Parenting Tool

Story Stars is a parenting tool designed for adults. While stories are created for children, the app is operated by parents and guardians who enter information and manage the experience. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13.

🧭 1. Who This Policy Applies To

Story Stars is designed for use by parents, legal guardians, and authorized caregivers (“you”, “your”) on behalf of children ages 2–12. The App is not intended for direct use by children without adult supervision.

📋 2. What We Collect

When you use Story Stars, you may provide the following information to personalize stories or lullabies:

Child Information:

• First name only (never last names)
• Age
• Story preferences and favorite themes
• Lullaby preferences (theme, voice selection)

Family & Social Information:

• Sibling first names and ages
• Friend first names and ages
• Parent/guardian first names
• Step-parent first names
• Grandparent first names or nicknames

Location Information:

• General location only — suburb, neighborhood, city, and/or country
• Favorite places (for example, a park name or a beach)
• This location information is transmitted to Google's servers as part of the story prompt to personalize your child's stories
• We do NOT collect precise GPS coordinates, street addresses, or any other exact location data

What We Do NOT Collect:

• Last names
• Email addresses (within the App)
• Phone numbers
• Photos or videos
• Precise/GPS location data
• Social Security numbers, government IDs, or financial information
• Any biometric data

✨ 3. How We Use Your Information

The information you provide is used for one purpose: to generate personalized stories and audio narrations for your child.

Specifically:

• Story generation: Your inputs (names, ages, locations, preferences) are sent to Google Gemini's API to create a personalized story.
• Audio narration: The generated story text is sent to ElevenLabs' API to produce a voiced narration.
• Lullaby generation: Your child's name, theme selection, and optional family/pet details are sent to Google Gemini's API to compose personalized lyrics, which are then sent to Suno to generate a unique, AI-sung lullaby.
• Personalization: Your preferences and saved data are used to tailor future story experiences on your device.

We do not use your information for:

• Advertising or marketing
• Profiling or behavioral tracking
• Sale or rental to third parties
• Any purpose unrelated to generating and delivering stories

💾 4. Data Storage & Security

On-Device Storage

All personal information you enter into Story Stars is stored locally on your device. This means:

• Your data lives on your device, not on our servers. Please note: Clearing the App's data, resetting your device, or uninstalling the App will permanently delete your saved stories, preferences, and purchase state. We cannot recover this data.
• We do not maintain a database of user information.
• We do not have user accounts or login systems.
• We cannot access, retrieve, or view your stored data.

Data in Transit

When you generate a story or lullaby, the relevant inputs (names, ages, locations, preferences) are transmitted to third-party AI services (Google Gemini, ElevenLabs, and Suno) via encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for processing. This data is:

• Sent only when you actively request a story.
• Transmitted over secure, encrypted connections.
• Not stored by us on any server we operate.

Deleting Your Data

Because data is stored locally on your device, you have full control. You can delete all Story Stars data at any time by:

• Clearing the App's data in your device settings.
• Uninstalling the App.

Once deleted from your device, that data is gone — we have no copy to retain.

Important: Once story data has been sent to Google or ElevenLabs for processing, we cannot delete it from their systems. However, no persistent profiles are created from your data, and these services process it transiently according to their own privacy policies and retention schedules.

🔗 5. Third-Party Services

Story Stars relies on the following third-party services to function. Under the GDPR, these services act as data processors on our behalf:

Google Gemini (AI Story Generation)

• What we send: Story prompts containing the names, ages, location details, and preferences you provide.
• Purpose: To generate personalized story text.
• Their policy: Google Privacy Policy

ElevenLabs (Voice Narration)

• What we send: The generated story text for audio conversion.
• Purpose: To produce spoken narration of stories.
• Their policy: ElevenLabs Privacy Policy

Suno (AI Lullaby Generation)

• What we send: AI-generated lyrics containing your child's name and theme-related content.
• Purpose: To generate personalized sung lullabies with music.

Payment Processors

• RevenueCat, Apple App Store, and/or Google Play Store handle all subscription and purchase transactions.
• We do not collect, process, or store any payment information (credit card numbers, billing addresses, etc.). All payment data is handled entirely by these platforms.
• Refer to their respective privacy policies for details on how they handle payment data.

Future Services

We may introduce analytics or other services in the future. If we do, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly before any new data collection begins.

Important: We do not control how third-party services handle data once transmitted to them. We encourage you to review their privacy policies. However, we select providers with strong privacy practices and use their services in a manner designed to minimize data exposure.

We are committed to protecting children's privacy and complying with applicable laws, including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Australian Privacy Act 1988, and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.

Key Protections

• Parental gate: Story Stars is operated by parents and guardians, not directly by children. All information about children is provided by and with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
• Minimal collection: We collect only the minimum information needed to personalize stories — first names and ages. No last names, photos, email addresses, or other sensitive identifiers.
• No persistent identifiers for children: We do not create user accounts, profiles, or persistent identifiers for children.
• No behavioral tracking: We do not track, profile, or build behavioral models of children.
• No targeted advertising: We do not serve ads of any kind — targeted or otherwise.
• No social features: Children cannot post publicly, chat, or interact with other users.
• No data sale: We never sell children's personal information. Period.

Parental Consent

By using Story Stars and entering information about your child, you represent that you are the child's parent or legal guardian and that you consent to the collection and use of that information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Parental Rights

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

• Review any information you've entered about your child (accessible directly on your device).
• Delete any or all information about your child at any time.
• Refuse further collection by discontinuing use of the App.
• Contact us with any questions or concerns about your child's information.

If you believe a child has used the App without parental knowledge or consent, please contact us immediately and we will assist in addressing your concerns.

Depending on where you live, you may have specific privacy rights under applicable law:

All Users

• Access the personal information stored on your device at any time.
• Delete all personal information by clearing your app/browser data.
• Stop using the Service at any time without penalty.

Australian Users (Privacy Act 1988)

• Right to access and correct personal information.
• Right to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe your privacy has been breached.

U.S. Users (COPPA)

• Parents may review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child's information at any time.

EU/EEA Users (GDPR)

• Right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection.
• Right to withdraw consent at any time.
• Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
• Since data is stored locally on your device and we do not maintain server-side records, most of these rights are exercised directly by you through your device.

California Users (CCPA/CPRA)

• Right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used.
• Right to delete personal information.
• Right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

🗂️ 8. Data Retention

• On-device data: Retained until you delete it or uninstall the App. We have no control over or access to this data.
• Third-party processing: Data sent to Google Gemini, ElevenLabs, and Suno for story and lullaby generation is transmitted in real time for processing. We do not instruct these services to retain your data, but their retention practices are governed by their own privacy policies.
• We do not retain any personal information on our own servers, as we do not operate user-facing servers for data storage.

🌍 9. International Data Transfers

When you generate a story or lullaby, data may be transmitted to servers operated by Google, ElevenLabs, and Suno, which may be located in the United States or other countries. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. These providers maintain their own safeguards for international data transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

• Using encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmitted to third-party services.
• Storing data locally on your device rather than on centralized servers, reducing the risk of large-scale data breaches.
• Not collecting more information than necessary for the Service to function.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your family's information to the best of our ability.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:

• The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will be revised.
• Material changes will be communicated through the App.
• Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
• If changes materially affect how we handle children's information, we will provide prominent notice and, where required by law, obtain fresh parental consent.
